Who we are/ where we live

This is a scoping study for a new art project I’m planning, anyone can contribute whatever age, background, wherever you live, whether you are a visual artist or not.

The idea is to make a visual statement within the shape of the postal district/zip code where you currently live. This visual statement/work can contain, painting, drawing, photography, collage, writing any media you choose. It can be about your areas history. visual references, where you eat , shop etc, . basically anything that links you to the area that you live in and how you feel about it.

Here are a few guidelines

The reference is on postal district/zip code not on street, county, borough , town or any other category (the idea eventually these/similar might join up to form a series of larger works).

Go onto one of the sites below and copy, create an outline of the relevant area where you live

If you live anywhere else, you’ll have to find your own postal district/zip etc outline via research

The initial project will only exist in photographic/digital form so the size of the original work won’t matter, but A4/A3 is suggested. Please make sure that the art work is contained within the boundaries of the postcode outline (see sample photo below)

Work can be created digitally or can be hand made and then photographed.

Make sure-:

• All files are Jpg images and no larger then 1.5 mb @ 72 dpi
• Title the file your name – age - postal/zip address – country
• Please write no more then 100 words on what you piece contains in terms of your Ideas.
• And also include the title information (e.g your name – age - postal/zip address – country) at the start of the text.

Remember anyone can take part you don’t have to be an artist, involve your children your friends, their kids, your parents grand parents, people abroad and so on. I am trying to get as diverse a range of responses as possible

Deadline is end of September 2011, then I’ll put everything together and see about stage 2
