Art 3 are pleased to present 'Colourways & Motorways' featuring Vanessa Graham-Dixon and Toby Messer. One is experimenting with abstraction and the relationships between colour, form, pattern and texture, the other is urban realist painter who finds peverse beauty in tarmac, exhaust fumes and concrete. Both artists are united by their 'Fauvist approaches to colour.

TOBY MESSER: Finds beauty and stature in the mundane grey ordinariness of our nation's motorways and in particular the M4 corridor that runs near to his studio in Brentford. The great, grey slab-like structures have been transformed into great multi-coloured concrete arches and roadways that serve as threads to link our cities. The majority of his works feature sweeping swathes of blue, purple and red and are mostly acrylic on canvas. And for once, the viewer is pleasantly taken on a journey rather than being stuck behind a juggernaut.

VANESSA GRAHAM-DIXON: paintings represent a personal and spiritual jouney of her development as an person and as an artist.

" I have spent four years in a very dark space spiritually speaking and now I have re-emerged into the world which now seems to me a marvellous place. I want to concey a sense of wonder and faith. A recent trip to Mexico focused my approaches further. I was particularly inspired by architectural forms, colour and by a visit to the late Frida Khalo;s house" .
