PRESS RELEASE
AUDREY MULLINS & FION GUNN ART 3 @ THE WINE GALLERY |
Fion Gunn and Audrey Mullins first met as seventeen year olds attending the Cork School of Art. Despite their long friendship, ‘Meditations’ is their first joint show. Audrey grew up in Clonmel, living over her family’s jewellery/gun shop while Fion lived over her family’s antique shop in Cork and as students they both explored the outer reaches of 'dressing to provoke'. In this they were inspired by tribal & ritual art, Joseph Cornell, and the desire to wear corsetry on the outside, which caused no end of trouble in the provincial Cork of the late 1970s.. They both left Cork after graduation and studied in Nancy, France (Fion) and Belfast (Audrey) respectively, and like so many of the Irish diaspora of their generation, both ended up living in London. Travel and life in multicultural societies have been key inspirations for them both, continuing the long and colourful tradition of the Irish abroad. Both Fion and Audrey - who now dress for warmth, comfort and easy washability - are painters preoccupied with colour and its meaning. This exhibition represents a continuing aesthetic dialogue between them, exploring their search for a contemplative idyll.. Notes for Editors: Fion Gunn is a gallery artist with David Curzon Gallery, Wimbledon and has shown at the Affordable Art Fair as well as the Grande Marche d‘Art Contemporain at La Bastille, Paris. She shows with “Regard sur Objets”, Monmartre, Paris and examples of her work can be viewed at www.Illustrationworks.com (gettyone.com).
