from the fragments left by the Szrebreniza massacre (1998 memorial), to the lace curtains left hanging in London’s short-life housing accomodation (2001 installation), to the invisibility of the elderly (2003/4 exhibitions). The work endeavours to recoup that dignified, hopeful quietness that speaks volumes about who and what we are. In this, my latest work, I am following up on my experience of the tsunami devastation in Sri Lanka after working there with a charity earlier this year. A random flip flop or a broken plastic bottle strewn on a deserted beach are reminders of what has gone. White school dresses and shirts pinned to the refugee camp's barbed wire enclosure drying for the following day's lessons, or a chance discovery of an English writing book urging the pupil to copy the words, 'you may go home' over and over when home has disappeared for now, reminds us of what is to come".
