"Stack/Wall" Installation Photograph 2003 In "Stack/ Wall" china cups are carefully balanced, any sudden movement, or gust of air might make them fall. I selected found cups for their painterly colour, which had already had a use, passed through many hands, recirculated through the junk shop. The colours are random here. I was thinking about the whole form, the "wall" as a fragile barrier of spaces or people. I have also recorded the build up, temporary nature of these pieces using video, and drawing. I am interested in the dynamic between painting, sculpture and movement. Building a fragile wall, a makeshift barrier, seperating two architectural spaces/places/, temporary nature, shifting spaces. Like a painting, love of colour. "Anthology" (between black and white, debate) 2004 This drawing is made after "Anthology", a fragile sculpture of interlinked cups from the previous year. With drawing I was able to extend the sculpture and view it more as a continuum and by the length, the weight and natural curl of the hanging paper, retain something of the sculpture. I think colour has a weight to it which is percieved through a cultural filter.creating a gap between colours and their labels. I saturated areas with pure colour pencils to find a rich shade rather than mixing colours using more blue or deeper red etc. Colouring in.
"Rainbow" I was thinking about the use of colour in painting and applying it to everyday objects. This sculpture creates its own shape by its weight . I am interested in the dynamic between sculpture and painting. |
